Two killed in Nilphamari road collision involving truck van

Two people have died following a head-on collision between a truck and a van in Domar upazila of Nilphamari, Bangladesh. The accident occurred at approximately 6:30 pm on Friday, 22 May, in the Sonaray Bazar area along the Domar–Debiganj regional highway.

The deceased have been identified as Mominul Islam (38), a van driver and son of the late Mofiz Uddin of Chilahati Sabujpara area in Domar upazila, and Bikash Chandra (25), a pedestrian and son of Akindra Chandra Roy of Mahiganj area.

According to police and local sources, a truck travelling from Debiganj towards Nilphamari collided head-on with a van on the highway. Mominul Islam, who was driving the van, died at the scene as a result of the impact. The van sustained severe damage in the collision.

Following the initial crash, the truck reportedly lost control and struck Bikash Chandra, who was standing by the roadside as a pedestrian. He sustained serious injuries in the incident.

Local residents and fire service personnel from Domar Fire Service subsequently rescued him and transported him to Domar Upazila Health Complex. The attending medical officer at the facility declared him dead upon arrival.

Following the incident, officers from Domar Police Station and the traffic police visited the scene and brought the situation under control. Authorities confirmed that vehicular movement on the highway resumed and remained normal after the accident.

Officer-in-Charge of Domar Police Station, Md Habibullah, confirmed the deaths of both individuals. He stated that legal procedures have been initiated in connection with the incident.

The Domar–Debiganj regional highway is a key transport route in the area, regularly used by both light and heavy vehicles. Road traffic incidents in such corridors are routinely documented by local law enforcement, who typically carry out investigations to determine contributing factors.

Police have indicated that an inquiry into the circumstances of the collision is ongoing, and that necessary legal steps, including vehicle-related procedures, are being processed in accordance with standard protocol.
