10-Hour Power Cut Planned Across Parts of Gazipur Today

Electricity supply will remain suspended for up to 10 hours in several areas of Gazipur on Saturday as authorities carry out urgent maintenance and power-line improvement work.

The interruption is scheduled from 8am to 6pm in areas under the Kashimpur zone of Gazipur Palli Bidyut Samity-1. The Kashimpur Zonal Office announced the planned outage in a notice issued on Friday.

According to the notice, the maintenance work is part of an initiative to improve electricity services for consumers. As part of the programme, the authorities will reduce the size of 11-kilovolt (11kV) feeders and take steps to reduce excessive load on the distribution network.

The work is also intended to help reduce load-shedding and make electricity supply more reliable in the affected areas. To carry out the work safely and efficiently, power supply will be kept suspended during the scheduled 10-hour period.

The areas expected to experience the interruption include parts of Kashimpur, the area near the BADC Gate, the vicinity of Rafiqul School, the western side of Kashimpur Stand, Refugee Para, Hajipara and the area around Jitar Mor.

Other affected locations include the vicinity of Alim, areas near the cemetery, the surroundings of Jamal Tower, Mallika Bazar, Nayapara, Haker Nol, Lal Dighi, the area adjacent to Khanqah Sharif and Rowshan Market.

The planned shutdown means households, businesses, shops and other establishments in these areas may have to make temporary arrangements for essential activities during the maintenance period. Residents and business owners who rely on electrically operated equipment may also face disruptions while the work is under way.

Power distribution authorities commonly suspend supply during maintenance and network improvement work to allow crews to carry out repairs and upgrades safely. Reducing excessive load and improving feeder arrangements can also help strengthen the distribution network and reduce the risk of service disruptions once the work is completed.

The Kashimpur Zonal Office said the electricity supply would be restored earlier if the maintenance and development work is completed ahead of schedule. Consumers will therefore not necessarily have to wait until 6pm if the work finishes sooner.

The authorities have apologised to customers in the affected areas for the temporary inconvenience and urged them to take the scheduled interruption into account while planning their activities for Saturday.
