A total of 431 people were arrested in Dhaka over the past 24 hours during regular operations conducted by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). During the same period, 70 cases were filed, according to a statement issued by the police.
The information was disclosed in a press release issued by the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division on Sunday (2 August). The statement said the arrests were made during operations carried out in different parts of the capital, with police also recovering narcotics and other items.
Among those arrested, 39 were taken into custody in the Ramna division, 24 in Lalbagh, 45 in Wari, 40 in Motijheel, 79 in Tejgaon, 101 in Mirpur, 44 in Gulshan and 47 in Uttara. Nine people were arrested by the Detective Branch, while three others were detained in operations conducted by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit.
The Mirpur division recorded the highest number of arrests, with 101 people detained during the 24-hour period. Tejgaon followed with 79 arrests, while Uttara and Wari recorded 47 and 45 arrests respectively.
The police said the operations also led to the recovery of a foreign-made pistol and two empty magazines. A significant quantity of narcotics was also seized, including 14,142 yaba tablets, 230 grams of cannabis and 156 grams of heroin.
In addition, 31 mobile phones, a private car and an old camera were recovered during the operations. One victim was also rescued, although the police statement did not provide further details about the person or the circumstances surrounding the rescue.
The operations were carried out as part of the DMP’s regular efforts to control crime, combat drug-related activities and maintain public safety in the capital. Different units of the metropolitan police, including local police stations, the Detective Branch and specialised units, took part in the operations.
The police said legal proceedings against those arrested were under way. The recovered weapons, narcotics and other items will be dealt with in accordance with the relevant laws and legal procedures.
The DMP statement did not provide a detailed breakdown of the 70 cases, including the specific offences involved or the individual allegations against those arrested. It also did not specify whether all 431 arrests were directly linked to the 70 cases filed during the same period.
The latest arrests come as police continue routine enforcement operations across Dhaka, focusing on crime prevention, drug control and the recovery of items suspected to be connected with criminal activities. The authorities have said such operations will continue as part of efforts to strengthen public security and maintain law and order in the capital.
