Withdrawal of OC Just Four Days After Joining

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shibchar Police Station in Madaripur has been withdrawn just four days after assuming office, prompting local curiosity and discussion over the unusually brief tenure.

On Saturday (28 March), OC Md. Amir Hossain Sernabat was formally withdrawn from Shibchar Police Station and attached to the Madaripur District Police Lines. He had taken charge of the station only on 24 March, making his period in office notably short.

According to police sources, the transfer and withdrawal were carried out as part of routine administrative reshuffling within the police force. However, no detailed official explanation has been issued regarding the sudden change in such a short span of time.

The development has generated considerable interest among local residents, many of whom are questioning the circumstances behind the rapid decision. Despite the speculation, police officials have maintained that the move should be viewed as a normal administrative procedure rather than anything unusual or disciplinary in nature.

Confirming the matter, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Shibchar Circle) Md. Salah Uddin Kader stated that OC Amir Hossain Sernabat was withdrawn “in the normal course of duty,” without providing further elaboration.

Brief Timeline of Events

25–27 MarchServed as OCShort operational period
28 MarchWithdrawn and attached to District Police LinesAdministrative reassignment

Mr Sernabat is not new to Shibchar Police Station. Prior to his brief appointment as Officer-in-Charge, he served there for an extended period as a Sub-Inspector and later as Inspector (Investigation). His long association with the station meant he was already familiar with local policing dynamics and operational challenges.

Despite this background, his sudden withdrawal after only four days has led to widespread discussion at the local level. Some residents view it as a routine internal reshuffle within the police administration, while others believe the unusually short tenure naturally raises questions, even in the absence of any official indication of irregularity.

Within Bangladesh’s policing structure, such rapid transfers, though uncommon, are not without precedent. Senior officials may adjust postings based on operational requirements, administrative priorities, or broader workforce management considerations. In most cases, such decisions are made internally and are not accompanied by detailed public explanations unless linked to disciplinary or investigative matters.

As of now, OC Amir Hossain Sernabat remains attached to the Madaripur District Police Lines, awaiting further posting or reassignment. No announcement has yet been made regarding his successor at Shibchar Police Station.
