Four Arrested in SSC Fraud Case

Four individuals have been arrested by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit (CTTC) on allegations of collecting money from students by falsely claiming to provide question papers for the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations.

The arrested persons have been identified as Sifat Ahmed, Mohammad Salman, Mezbabul Alam, and Mohammad Mohiuzzaman.

According to information disclosed at a press briefing held on Saturday afternoon at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Media Centre on Minto Road, CTTC Deputy Commissioner Munshi Shahabuddin confirmed the details. The briefing was organised to address concerns regarding online fraud linked to rumours of SSC question paper leaks.

CTTC stated that its cyber and intelligence analysis wing detected a suspicious Facebook page during routine social media monitoring on 20 April. Following a detailed examination of the page’s activities, law enforcement officers conducted an operation at Tajpur in Ashulia, on the outskirts of Dhaka, at around 8:30 pm the same day. During this operation, Sifat Ahmed was arrested.

Based on information provided during interrogation of Sifat Ahmed, CTTC conducted further operations on 23 April. Mohammad Salman was arrested from the Dhunot area of Bogura district. On the same day, Mezbabul Alam was detained from the Dadonpur Malipara area under Nawabganj in Dinajpur district.

Subsequently, further intelligence led to another operation on 24 April in the Naogaon Union area under Tarash upazila in Sirajganj district, where Mohammad Mohiuzzaman was arrested.

CTTC officials stated that the group had been operating in coordination for a considerable period, using social media platforms to circulate claims of access to SSC examination question papers in exchange for money. However, preliminary verification revealed that the questions they provided had no correspondence with the actual examination papers.

A case has been filed in connection with the incident, and the arrested individuals are currently being interrogated under remand. Authorities further noted that the investigation remains ongoing to determine the full extent of the network and any possible associates involved in the operation.

The details of the arrests are summarised below:
