Five Killed in Family Murder Case

A multiple homicide in Kapasia, Gazipur has prompted an extensive police search for a man accused of killing five members of his own household before fleeing the area.

According to police, the victims were a woman, her three children and her brother, all found dead inside a rented residence in Rautkona village under Kapasia upazila. Investigators identified the suspect as Md. Forkan, 45, the husband of one of the victims, who remains at large.

Police said Forkan had been living on the ground floor of a house owned by Monir Hossain in Rautkona village along with his wife and children as tenants. Investigators believe the killings took place sometime between 8:00 pm on Thursday, 8 May, and 6:15 am on Friday, 9 May.

The deceased were identified as Forkan’s wife Sharmin, 35; daughters Mim, 15, and Maria, 12; infant daughter Faria, 1; and Sharmin’s brother Rasul. Their ancestral home is in Gopalganj Sadar.

Kapasia police reported receiving information at approximately 8:15 am on Friday after the suspect allegedly telephoned Rashida, the wife of his younger brother, and told her that he had killed five people and was fleeing. Following the call, local residents informed the authorities, who then arrived at the scene and recovered the bodies.

Witnesses said the children’s bodies were found lying side by side inside the room, while Sharmin and her brother Rasul were discovered separately. The scene caused widespread alarm among residents in the neighbourhood.

Local residents claimed that Forkan had allegedly been addicted to drugs for a prolonged period and that domestic disputes were frequent within the family. Based on these accounts, locals suspect that ongoing family conflict may have contributed to the killings, although police have not yet confirmed a motive.

Senior officers of Gazipur District Police said an investigation is under way to establish the exact cause and circumstances of the murders. The bodies were being prepared for transfer to the morgue of Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examinations.

Police also confirmed that multiple teams have been deployed to trace and arrest the suspect.

A case is currently being processed, and officials said further details would be disclosed depending on the progress of the investigation.
