Factory Killing Shocks Chawkbazar Area

A man named Yunus Mia has been found dead inside a factory in the Kamalbagh area of Dhaka’s Chawkbazar locality, prompting a police investigation into what officials are describing as a “suspicious death”.

According to police, the incident came to light on Friday afternoon (15 May), when local residents alerted authorities after noticing unusual circumstances at a privately operated factory owned by one Morshed Mia. Officers from the local station responded promptly and recovered the body from inside the premises.

The deceased, identified as Yunus Mia, is believed to have been working in waste and drainage cleaning services. Preliminary findings suggest that he suffered a fatal head injury, although the exact cause and manner of death have yet to be confirmed through a post-mortem examination.

The body was subsequently sent to the morgue of Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital for autopsy and further forensic assessment.

A senior officer from Chawkbazar Police Station confirmed the recovery and stated that the circumstances appear unusual. He noted that no other individuals were present inside the factory at the time of police arrival, raising further questions about what transpired before the discovery of the body.

“We found the victim lying inside the factory with visible head injuries. At the time of inspection, no workers or the owner were present on-site. This is being treated as a suspicious incident, and we are actively trying to trace the owner and other employees linked to the premises,” the officer said.

Police have already begun questioning local residents and reviewing the operational details of the factory to determine whether Yunus Mia was employed there regularly or had entered the premises for work-related purposes.

Investigators are also examining whether any dispute, accident, or intentional act led to the fatal injury. However, no arrests have been made so far, and the identity of any potential suspects remains unknown.

The case has drawn concern among locals in the densely populated Kamalbagh area, where small-scale industrial units and workshops operate closely alongside residential buildings, often with limited safety oversight.
