Mizanur Rahman Sinha, a veteran politician, former state minister for health, and prominent industrialist, has passed away at the age of 82 while undergoing treatment in Singapore.
He died in the early hours of Saturday at approximately 2:47 am (local time) at Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital, where he had been receiving long-term medical care, according to a confirmation shared by his daughter, Tasnim Sinha, on social media.
A senior figure within the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Sinha served as the treasurer of the party’s central committee and later took on the role of convener of the Munshiganj district unit. In recognition of his long-standing political involvement, he was recently nominated by the BNP for the forthcoming 13th parliamentary elections from Munshiganj-2 constituency. However, the party later revised its nomination following his illness and hospitalisation abroad.
Sinha had earlier been elected to the national parliament from Munshiganj-2 in both the 7th general election in 1996 and the 8th general election in 2001 as a BNP candidate. Over the decades, he was regarded as a key organisational figure in strengthening the party’s presence at the district level.
Beyond politics, he was widely recognised for his contribution to Bangladesh’s pharmaceutical and industrial sector. He served as the Managing Director of The ACME Laboratories Ltd, one of the country’s leading drug manufacturers. Under his leadership, the company expanded significantly and consolidated its position in the national healthcare industry.
Sinha began his professional career in 1964 at Habib Bank Limited, where he worked in various managerial capacities. In 1976, he joined ACME Laboratories to continue the vision of his father, the late Hamidur Rahman Sinha, the company’s founder. He assumed the role of Managing Director in 1981 and went on to serve the organisation for nearly five decades, shaping its long-term growth and strategic direction.
In addition to his corporate and political roles, Sinha was actively involved in philanthropic initiatives and local development programmes, particularly in Munshiganj. He was often credited with supporting healthcare and community welfare projects in his home region.
