Wife Detained in Barisal for Murdering Husband over Affair

A gruesome murder has come to light in the Muladi upazila of Barisal district, where a farmer was allegedly killed by his wife as a consequence of an extramarital affair. Following the homicide, the victim’s body was buried beside his own home, with the crime scene meticulously concealed using fresh mud plaster. On Monday afternoon, local police exhumed the body from a shallow grave located adjacent to the kitchen of the property in Charmalia village.

The deceased has been identified as 59-year-old Harun Howlader, a local farmer and the son of the late Oshimuddin Howlader. Following the discovery of the body, law enforcement officers swiftly detained the victim’s wife, Selina Begum, who is currently being held in police custody for interrogation. Preliminary investigations suggest that Harun was murdered after he strongly objected to his wife’s illicit relationship. To evade justice, Selina allegedly orchestrated an elaborate missing-person charade.

According to police sources, the farmer vanished abruptly on Friday night. Immediately after his disappearance, Selina began circulating a narrative claiming that a group of unidentified men had broken into their home during the early hours, bound her husband’s hands and eyes, and forcefully abducted him using a motorised trawler. To give her story official weight, she instructed her son, Jafar Howlader, to lodge a formal kidnapping case at the Muladi Police Station on Saturday night, positioning herself as the primary witness to the fabricated abduction.

Suspicion began to mount almost immediately. Helal Bepari, a member of the local Safipur Union Parishad, had contacted the authorities on Saturday morning after Selina first raised the alarm. A police team, led by Assistant Superintendent of Police Tarek Aman Banna, arrived at the village shortly afterwards to initiate an investigation. Local residents grew increasingly wary of Selina’s erratic behavior and inconsistent statements. Neighbours particularly noticed that she had spent Friday night covering her room’s floor with a fresh layer of wet clay, an unusual domestic chore under the circumstances.

Driven by growing suspicion surrounding the farmer’s sudden disappearance, a group of neighbours conducted a thorough search of the homestead on Monday morning. They soon noticed a patch of freshly disturbed earth near the kitchen structure and, upon closer inspection, spotted what appeared to be human fingers protruding from the soil. The community immediately alerted the police, who arrived to dig up the site and recover Harun’s body. The body has been sent to a local hospital morgue for an autopsy, whilst investigators work to identify any potential accomplices involved in the killing.
