Women’s Honour Board Added at Mirpur

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) ad hoc committee president Tamim Iqbal has introduced another new initiative following several administrative decisions taken since assuming office. For the first time, an honour board dedicated to Bangladesh’s women cricketers has been installed at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

The move addresses a longstanding absence at the venue, where only male cricketers had previously been recognised on the stadium’s official honour boards. Until now, the honour board displayed at the entrance to the main building featured only the names of players from the Bangladesh men’s national team. With the latest addition, women cricketers who have represented Bangladesh in international cricket will also receive formal recognition.

Tamim confirmed the development on Tuesday, 19 May, through a post on social media. In his statement, he explained that the two newly installed boards contain the names of Bangladesh national women cricketers who have represented the country in Women’s One Day Internationals and Twenty20 Internationals.

He wrote that the men’s honour board had long been positioned on one side of the wall at the entrance to the main building of the stadium, while no equivalent board existed for women cricketers.

According to Tamim, the matter was raised during a meeting with members of the women’s team, who expressed disappointment over the absence of similar recognition. Following that discussion, a decision was made to install a women’s honour board on the opposite side of the same entrance.

Tamim stated: “These two boards proudly display the names of our national cricketers who have represented Bangladesh in women’s ODI and T20I cricket. At the entrance to the main building of the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium, there has long been an honour board for the men’s team, but there was none for the women.”

He added: “During a meeting with them, they mentioned this with some disappointment. Now, a women’s honour board has also been placed on the other side of the same entrance, and this is what they deserve.”

Tamim further said the initiative was intended to ensure equal recognition for both men’s and women’s teams.

He noted: “Whether it is the women’s team or the men’s team, all are international cricketers. Everyone represents Bangladesh. Everyone deserves this honor.” In a further remark, he said that all players collectively represent Bangladesh cricket.

The addition of the women’s honour board formally acknowledges the contribution of Bangladesh’s female cricketers and places their achievements alongside those of the men’s team within the country’s Main cricket venue.
