Punjabi Singer Murdered After Rejecting Marriage Proposal

The body of popular Punjabi singer Inder Kaur, also known as Yashinder Kaur, 29, has been recovered from the Neelo canal in Ludhiana, Punjab, following a six-day search. Local police found her remains early on Tuesday, 19 May. The discovery concluded days of uncertainty after she went missing under suspicious circumstances.

Disappearance and Investigation Background

According to the official complaint lodged by the singer’s brother, Jatinder Singh, Inder Kaur left her residence on 13 May at approximately 8:30 pm. She was driving her Ford Figo to purchase essential household items. When she failed to return by late night and her mobile phone was found switched off, her family suspected an abduction and approached law enforcement authorities. Six days later, her body was sighted and pulled from the canal.

Initial suspicions raised by the family pointed directly towards Sukhwinder Singh, alias Sukha, a resident of Bhaloor village in the Moga district. The victim’s family asserted that Sukhwinder had been exerting severe psychological pressure on Inder Kaur for a prolonged period, demanding that she marry him.

Motive and Execution of the Crime

The association between Inder Kaur and Sukhwinder Singh began approximately three years ago via the social media platform Instagram. The acquaintance transitioned into a friendship over time. However, upon discovering that Sukhwinder was already married and had a child, Inder Kaur chose to distance herself. She severed all communication channels and rejected his marriage proposals.

According to the family’s statements, Sukhwinder harboured deep resentment following the rejection and subsequently issued a series of threats to the singer.

Police investigations revealed that Sukhwinder orchestrated the homicide while residing in Canada. To evade detection, he travelled from Canada to Nepal instead of flying directly to India. He then entered Punjab clandestinely across the land border.

On the night of 13 May, Sukhwinder and his accomplices intercepted Inder Kaur’s vehicle, abducted her at gunpoint, and subsequently murdered her. Her body was discarded in the canal to eliminate evidence. Following the commission of the crime, Sukhwinder immediately fled back to Canada.
