Pakistan Face Stark Reality Check

Former Pakistan captain and commentator Ramiz Raja has delivered a scathing assessment of the national Test side following successive whitewash defeats against Bangladesh national cricket team. Speaking on his YouTube channel, he highlighted deep structural flaws in Pakistan cricket, ranging from fitness concerns to tactical shortcomings and a lack of long-term planning.

Ramiz argued that Pakistan’s Test team is not merely going through a temporary dip but is instead suffering from long-standing issues that are becoming increasingly exposed at the highest level. He warned that if the current approach continues unchecked, Pakistan risks falling further behind in international cricket while other nations continue to progress rapidly.

Drawing a direct comparison with Bangladesh, he noted how the balance of competitiveness between the two sides has shifted dramatically in recent years. Where Pakistan once held a clear upper hand, Bangladesh now appear more confident, disciplined, and capable of winning both at home and away. He stressed that this transformation should serve as a warning sign for Pakistan cricket’s leadership.

A major portion of his criticism focused on the lack of intensity and clarity within the current Pakistan setup. He pointed out that the bowling attack, once considered the team’s strongest suit, now appears ineffective and lacks a coherent strategy. According to him, modern Test cricket demands precision, variation, and sustained pressure—qualities he feels Pakistan is currently missing.

Fitness levels across all departments also came under scrutiny. Ramiz suggested that batters, bowlers, and spinners alike are struggling to meet the physical demands of contemporary international cricket, making the team appear outdated compared with more dynamic sides.

On individual performances, he acknowledged that Mohammad Rizwan has been scoring runs but questioned the overall impact and authority of his batting. He also praised Litton Das for his composed innings under pressure, describing it as more influential in shaping match situations. Meanwhile, he expressed disappointment with Babar Azam, insisting that Pakistan’s senior batters must deliver match-defining performances rather than occasional contributions.

Key Areas of Concern Highlighted by Ramiz Raja

Area of Concern Observation Impact on Team
Bowling Attack Lacks variation and strategy Ineffective in sustaining pressure
Fitness Levels Below modern international standards Reduced intensity across sessions
Batting Impact Senior players underperforming in key moments Failure to convert starts into wins
Tactical Planning Absence of long-term direction Inconsistent performances abroad
Mental Approach Lack of confidence and aggression Weak competitiveness under pressure

Ramiz concluded by urging immediate and decisive reforms in Pakistan cricket. He cautioned that without structural change and stronger accountability, the current decline could deepen further, making recovery increasingly difficult in the coming years.
