A Bangladeshi businessman has died from severe burn injuries at a specialised hospital in Dhaka following a mobile phone explosion at his residence in Ashulia. The victim, identified as Mijanur Rahman, succumbed to his injuries on Sunday afternoon whilst undergoing emergency treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

The incident occurred during the early hours of Saturday, 14 June, at a rented property owned by an individual named Alim, located near the Rashid Market area in Ashulia. According to local sources and witnesses, Rahman was using two mobile phones simultaneously whilst both devices were connected to electrical chargers. The phones abruptly detonated, triggering a localized fire inside the room.

Residents living in the vicinity reported hearing a loud, metallic explosion coming from Rahman’s flat during the night. Immediately following the blast, neighbours heard the victim shouting for assistance from inside the smoke-filled room. Due to the entry point being locked, local residents were forced to break the padlock on the balcony door to gain access to the premises.

Upon entry, the neighbours successfully extracted Rahman, who had already sustained catastrophic burn injuries across his body.
