Mohammad Salahuddin to Lead Bangladesh Emerging Squad in South Africa

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is putting the final touches on an extensive developmental tour, with the Bangladesh Emerging squad scheduled to depart for South Africa on 27 July. Operating under the umbrella of the High Performance (HP) unit, this tour is designed to expose the country’s next generation of cricketers to the challenges of overseas conditions. The assignment includes a tri-nation white-ball tournament followed by two crucial four-day matches.

The limited-overs segment of the tour will feature a competitive field. The Bangladesh Emerging team will battle alongside the South Africa Emerging squad and a prominent local sports university side. This multi-team setup ensures a variety of playing styles and high-intensity match situations, providing vital data for the selection committee as they assess depth for the senior national side.

A cornerstone of this tour is the strategic shift overseen by former national captain Tamim Iqbal, who has been instrumental in reshaping the HP division’s priorities. The philosophy centers on fostering long-term talent pipelines rather than focusing on immediate domestic success. To execute this vision on the ground, the BCB has appointed the highly revered coach Mohammad Salahuddin to helm the technical staff. In contrast, the axe has fallen on middle-order batsman Yasir Ali Rabbi, who loses his place following a barren spell in recent development fixtures.

The selection committee has retained a reliable foundation while testing fresh prospects.
