Australia Clinch Seventh Women’s T20 World Cup Title

Australia reaffirmed their unrivalled dominance in women’s T20 cricket by defeating hosts England by seven wickets in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground. The victory secured Australia’s record-extending seventh Women’s T20 World Cup title and reinforced their status as the most successful team in the tournament’s history.

The triumph in the competition’s tenth edition once again highlighted Australia’s remarkable consistency on the global stage. Having already entered the tournament as the most decorated side, they have now widened the gap even further. No other nation has managed to win the Women’s T20 World Cup more than once, underlining the extraordinary standard Australia have maintained over the years.

After winning the toss, England elected to bat first and posted a competitive total of 150 for 4 from their allotted 20 overs. Australia’s disciplined bowling attack kept the home side under control for much of the innings, preventing England’s batters from scoring freely during the powerplay and middle overs.

Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt anchored the innings with an unbeaten 58, displaying composure under pressure while ensuring England remained in contention. She found valuable support from Freya Kemp, who struck an undefeated 44. The pair shared an unbroken 80-run partnership for the fifth wicket, rescuing England after a relatively subdued start and accelerating effectively in the closing overs to lift the total to a respectable 150.

Australia’s bowlers remained economical throughout. Hamilton emerged as the most successful bowler, claiming 1 wicket for just 19 runs while consistently restricting England’s scoring opportunities.

Chasing 151 for victory, Australia suffered an early setback when they lost their first wicket with only 17 runs on the board. The early breakthrough, however, did little to disrupt their pursuit.

Beth Mooney and Phoebe Litchfield responded with a magnificent second-wicket partnership worth more than 100 runs, completely shifting the momentum in Australia’s favour. Their composed yet positive approach neutralised England’s bowling attack and steadily reduced the required rate.

Mooney produced another innings worthy of her reputation, scoring a superb 64 from 49 deliveries. Her knock combined calculated aggression with excellent shot selection, as she paced the chase expertly and punished loose deliveries whenever opportunities arose. Litchfield complemented her perfectly, contributing a fluent 48 from just 35 balls while rotating the strike efficiently and finding the boundary at crucial moments.

With the foundation firmly established, Australia’s middle order completed the chase without unnecessary risks. The visitors reached 153 for 3 in only 17.1 overs, sealing victory with 17 balls remaining and underlining their authority in the final.

England struggled to generate sustained pressure with the ball. Sophie Ecclestone claimed one wicket for 24 runs but was unable to halt Australia’s commanding chase as the experienced batting line-up remained in complete control throughout the innings.

Mooney’s match-winning performance earned her the Player of the Final award. Her outstanding displays across the tournament also saw her recognised as Player of the Tournament, capping a memorable campaign in which she consistently delivered when her team needed her most.
