The Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Tejgaon Division has executed a comprehensive law enforcement operation across multiple criminal hotspots in the capital. The coordinated initiative involved a series of targeted, overnight raids on Tuesday, 7 July, resulting in the apprehension of 51 individuals suspected of various municipal offences.
According to senior officials within the Tejgaon Division, the division-wide crackdown was implemented as part of a structured, ongoing security campaign to curb urban crime. Law enforcement personnel systematically focused their efforts on known high-risk neighbourhoods across six key police precincts: Mohammadpur, Adabor, Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Hatirjheel, Tejgaon, and the Tejgaon Industrial Area.
A detailed breakdown of the operation indicates that the highest concentration of arrests occurred within the jurisdiction of the Mohammadpur Police Station, where officers took 16 suspects into custody. The Adabor Police Station followed closely, logging 11 arrests over the course of the night.
Meanwhile, police teams operating in the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar and Hatirjheel sectors managed to detain nine suspects respectively. The central Tejgaon precinct accounted for five additional arrests, whereas the lowest volume of activity was recorded under the Tejgaon Industrial Area Police Station, where officers processed a single suspect.
| Police Precinct | Number of Detained Suspects |
| Mohammadpur | 16 |
| Adabor | 11 |
| Sher-e-Bangla Nagar | 9 |
| Hatirjheel | 9 |
| Tejgaon | 5 |
| Tejgaon Industrial Area | 1 |
Senior law enforcement representatives confirmed that the 51 detained individuals face a diverse array of criminal allegations. The formal charges filed against the suspects include active involvement in domestic burglary, street-level muggings, extortion, and the possession or distribution of illicit narcotics. Many of these individuals had been under surveillance following an uptick in petty theft and organised street crime within the division’s commercial and residential hubs.
Legal Status: Following the successful completion of the overnight sweeps, the six participating police stations immediately initiated formal legal proceedings. The suspects are currently being processed under existing statutory frameworks and are scheduled to be produced before the metropolitan magistrates’ courts to face formal indictment.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police representatives have emphasised that this targeted sweep is part of a broader strategy. Law enforcement agencies intend to maintain this heightened state of vigilance, with further unannounced operations planned over the coming weeks to dismantle local gangs, disrupt illegal drug supply chains, and guarantee public safety across the capital.
