Eight individuals, including four women and four men, have been arrested during a targeted police operation at a residential hotel in the Konabari district of Gazipur. Law enforcement officials launched the raid on Wednesday evening, 8 July, following a tip-off regarding illicit activities taking place within the premises. The detainees were formally presented before a local court on Thursday afternoon.
The operation commenced at around 8:00 pm when a specialised team from the Konabari Police Station breached the hotel. Officers secured the entry and exit points before conducting a systematic search of the rooms. The names of the four detained women have been withheld by the authorities in line with standard legal protocols.
The four arrested men consist of management and operational staff working at the local lodging establishment.

The police raid highlights a broader strategy by municipal law enforcement to address anti-social behaviour and unlicensed commercial operations in Gazipur’s growing industrial hubs. Over the past few months, the Konabari area has seen an influx of casual workers and commercial traffic, which has subsequently led to a rise in budget residential hotels. Local community leaders have previously raised concerns regarding several of these establishments operating without proper oversight or adherence to local regulations.
Investigators reveal that the operation was set in motion after neighbourhood watch groups reported unusual foot traffic and disruptions surrounding the establishment. Plainclothes officers reportedly monitored the location for several hours to corroborate the reports before the formal raid was authorised.
Following their arrest on Wednesday night, the eight suspects were processed at the Konabari Police Station. On Thursday at approximately 2:00 pm, they were escorted under police guard to the Gazipur Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court to face formal charges under the prevailing anti-vice and public nuisance laws.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Konabari Police Station, Iftekhar Hossain, confirmed the structural details of the raid and reiterated that the department maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards establishments facilitating anti-social operations.
Statement from Law Enforcement: “Our teams acted swiftly on precise intelligence to secure the premises and apprehend those involved,” Officer-in-Charge Hossain stated. “The individuals were forwarded to the court at 2:00 pm on Thursday. We are also investigating whether the hotel management possesses the requisite trading licences and paperwork to operate a commercial lodging business.”
The local administration has warned other hotel owners in the Gazipur metropolitan area to tighten their guest registration protocols and ensure absolute compliance with municipal codes. Authorities indicated that similar surprise inspections will continue across various sectors of the city to maintain public order and address community grievances regarding illegal commercial activities.
