One Dead, Three Injured in Faridpur Electrocution Tragedy

A fatal electrocution incident in Faridpur’s Sadarpur upazila resulted in the death of a 27-year-old man on Tuesday afternoon, while three others suffered injuries during a panicked rescue attempt. The accident took place in Purba Shouldubi village under the Krishnapur Union.

The deceased has been identified as Milon Matubbar, son of Abdur Rob Matubbar. Police and local sources reported that a main overhead power transmission line snapped from a nearby utility pole and fell onto the tin roof of a cattle shed. The electrical surge energized three nearby homesteads and surrounding metal fixtures within the homestead compound.

Unaware that the compound had become electrified, Milon stepped into the courtyard after taking a bath to hang wet clothes on a galvanized iron (GI) clothesline. He was electrocuted immediately upon touching the wire. Three individuals—Mithu Matubbar (30), Hena Begum (24), and Obaidur Sheikh (30)—attempted to pull Milon to safety, but were also struck by the high-voltage current.

Local residents quickly alerted the Katakhali electricity office, which promptly cut the main power supply to the area. Villagers then rescued the four victims and transported them to the Sadarpur Upazila Health Complex, where the attending doctor declared Milon dead on arrival.

As the conditions of the three injured individuals deteriorated, medical staff referred them to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.

Following notification of the incident, Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Roni Khalashi of Sadarpur Police Station visited both the scene and the hospital to prepare the official inquest report. Sadarpur police confirmed that legal and administrative formalities regarding the accident are currently underway.
