Youth Leader Detained Naked From Woman’s Home, Video Spreads

A youth wing political leader was allegedly detained and assaulted after being found inside a woman’s home in Shyamnagar, Satkhira, with several videos of the incident subsequently circulating on social media.

The incident reportedly took place at around 10.30pm on Thursday, 7 August, in Harinagar village of Shyamnagar upazila. The man, identified as Abdul Mannan, is said to be the president of Ward 6 of the Shyamnagar municipal unit of the Bangladesh Jubo Dal.

Mannan is the son of Abdur Rahim and a resident of Chandipur village in Shyamnagar municipality.

According to local sources, a group of residents surrounded a house in Harinagar on Thursday night. They allegedly broke open the door and brought Mannan out of the house without clothes. He was then allegedly tied to a post inside the premises and beaten.

Several leaders of the local Jubo Dal reportedly arrived after being informed of the incident and took Mannan away from the scene.

Abul Kashem and Abu Hamza, local leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party in Munshiganj Union, along with other residents, said the woman and Mannan had known each other through their work.

According to the local residents, the woman alleged that Mannan had visited her home on several occasions and made various proposals as part of what she described as an attempt to blackmail her. They said Mannan entered the house on Thursday night on the pretext of taking the woman to the market, after which local residents became aware of his presence and detained him.

These allegations have not been independently verified, and Mannan’s account of the incident was not available.

The incident has also drawn attention to Mannan’s previous organisational disciplinary history. According to people familiar with the matter, the municipal Jubo Dal took organisational action against him on 7 July 2025 over an allegation that he had entered another person’s business premises and demanded money.

Fariduzzaman Babu, acting convenor of the Shyamnagar municipal Jubo Dal, said the organisation had become aware of the latest incident and that disciplinary action would be taken against Mannan.

Meanwhile, Shyamnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Shafiul Alam Patwari said no formal complaint had been lodged with the police over the incident, despite videos circulating on social media.

According to the officer, police reached the area after members of the two families had already settled the matter among themselves and removed the people involved from the scene.

Police therefore have not confirmed the circumstances shown in the circulating videos or established whether any offence was committed. The absence of a formal complaint has also meant that no criminal case has been reported in connection with the incident so far.

Repeated attempts were made to contact Mannan for his response, but his mobile phone was found switched off.

The videos circulating on social media have generated considerable discussion in the area. However, the footage alone does not establish the full circumstances leading to the incident, and the allegations involving the individuals concerned remain unverified unless established through an appropriate investigation or legal process.
