Police Commissioner Breaks Down Describing Chilling Rangpur Murders

The metropolis of Rangpur has been plunged into deep shock following the horrific murder of a retired school teacher and three members of his family. During a press briefing held on Sunday, Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud broke down in tears while recounting the chilling details of the tragedy, reflecting the immense brutality of the crime that has horrified the local community.
The brutal incident came to light after police arrested two suspects, whose preliminary interrogation revealed a disturbing sequence of events. The suspects have been identified as Mugdha Das, a resident of the Masuapara area who works at a local fish market in City Bazar, and his cousin’s son Siddhartha Das, an employee at PK Jewellers.
Addressing journalists at the police commissioner’s office, Commissioner Mabud struggled to maintain his composure while speaking about the victims. He noted that Ganapati Chakraborty, the head of the household, was a highly respected educator who held no known enmity or disputes with anyone in the neighbourhood.
According to information extracted from the arrested suspects, the tragedy unfolded late Thursday night. Mugdha and Siddhartha had purchased yaba tablets from a local drug peddler and consumed them at the residence of an individual named Simanta. In the early hours of the morning, the pair scaled the rooftop of an unfinished building belonging to a person named Debu to cross over onto the roof of Chakraborty’s residence.
Disturbed by noises during their drug-fuelled intrusion, Ganapati Chakraborty emerged onto the rooftop wearing only a lungi and a towel around his neck. The intruders immediately ambushed him, strangling him with the towel. Hearing the commotion, his wife, Pritilata Chakraborty, rushed towards the stairs, where she was intercepted and similarly murdered.
The commissioner’s voice choked with emotion as he described the fate of their twenty-five-year-old daughter, Prapti Chakraborty, who rushed out upon hearing her parents’ distress. According to the suspects’ chilling confessions, it took several minutes for Prapti to succumb to the assault. The attackers used a rope to bind her neck and face so violently that her jaw fractured and her eyes protruded from their sockets.
The recounting grew even more harrowing when the commissioner addressed the youngest victim, Priyam Chakraborty, a twelve-year-old student of class five at Rangpur Zila School and the son of Ganapati Chakraborty. Overcome by grief and wiping away tears, the commissioner paused his briefing, noting that the young boy was the same age as his own son. The child was strangled with a piece of cloth and ultimately suffocated with a pillow.
Following the quadruple murder, the suspects displayed an astonishing lack of remorse. After daylight broke, they used the victims’ bathroom to bathe before consuming dates and cucumbers found in a jar on the dining table. They even consumed more yaba inside the house. In an attempt to destroy evidence, the perpetrators placed the victims’ two smartphones into detergent-infused water to scrub away fingerprints.
Police swiftly cracked the case, arresting the two primary suspects and filing a murder case at Kotwali Police Station. Commissioner Mabud assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and a charge sheet will be submitted shortly, urging citizens to place their trust in law enforcement as they pursue justice for the slain family.
