Scores of activists affiliated with the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) assembled aboard engine-driven country boats along the Titas River in Brahmanbaria on Sunday, mounting a brazen public gathering and staging an impromptu rally on the riverbank in direct defiance of local administrative prohibitions. The covert demonstration quickly drew widespread attention across the district after photographic and video records surfaced across social media channels, showing activists displaying commemorative 15 August banners and chanting political slogans in support of the Awami League leadership.

According to local accounts, more than one hundred student wing activists gathered on two large vessels along an open channel near Brahmanbaria town during the morning hours. They were joined by Shahadat Hossain Shobhon, the general secretary of the Brahmanbaria District Chhatra League committee and a former upazila parishad chairman, who had been in hiding following recent nationwide political shifts. Shobhon arrived aboard a speedboat to greet the gathering in the centre of the waterway before leading them ashore.

Following the mid-river rendezvous, the contingent landed at an open tract of land along the bank, where they hoisted a 15 August banner to conduct a brief political programme. Video footage shared across digital platforms shows Shobhon addressing the crowd and leading chants anticipating the return of the Awami League’s central leadership. District BCL Joint General Secretary Mikail Hossain and several other local student wing figures were also identified among the participants.

The event came to light on Sunday evening after Akash Ahmed, an expatriate BCL activist, posted two separate video clips documenting the demonstration on Facebook. The footage depicts dozens of young men packed aboard the boats, shaking hands with Shobhon as his vessel drew alongside, before transitioning to speeches delivered from the riverside gathering.

Local law enforcement authorities confirmed that they are examining the circulated recordings to verify the operational details of the demonstration. Mohammad Shahidul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Brahmanbaria Sadar Police Station, stated that police officers had reviewed the footage and were conducting inquiries to identify the precise riverbank location and establish the exact timing of the unauthorised assembly.
