Two men have been arrested in Natore after the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) allegedly found 105 grams of heroin being carried using a concealed method during a night-time anti-drug operation.
The operation was conducted at around 9.30pm on Wednesday in front of Asad Computer Shop on the paved road connecting Boromor and Chotomor in South Bargachha, Ward 8 of Natore municipality, under Natore Sadar Police Station.
The arrested men have been identified as Md Sakibur Rahman Sakib, 38, son of Md Aktar of Alipur Mahishalbari in Godagari upazila of Rajshahi, and Md Mintu Akand, 43, son of Badiuzzaman Akand of Ratanpur Jorpukuria in Panchbibi upazila of Joypurhat.
According to RAB-5’s Company Commander Post-2 at its Natore camp, the operation was launched after intelligence information indicated suspected drug-related activity in the area. RAB personnel reportedly stopped the two men and questioned them.
During the questioning, Sakib allegedly admitted that he was carrying heroin inside his body using a concealed method. RAB personnel subsequently recovered 105 grams of heroin from his rectum in the presence of witnesses and seized the substance.
The discovery highlights the lengths to which drug traffickers and couriers may reportedly go to conceal narcotics while transporting them. Law enforcement agencies routinely rely on intelligence-led operations, surveillance and searches to identify suspected drug movements and disrupt supply networks.
During preliminary questioning, Sakib reportedly told RAB that he had collected the heroin from a drug dealer known as ‘Roni’. He allegedly travelled to Natore carrying the narcotics with the intention of delivering them to Mintu Akand.
RAB is examining the information provided during the initial questioning to determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged collection and intended delivery of the heroin. The identity and involvement of the person referred to as ‘Roni’, however, remain subject to investigation and any subsequent legal proceedings.
The operation forms part of continuing efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb the transportation and distribution of illegal narcotics. Heroin is a highly addictive opioid drug, and its trafficking and possession are offences under Bangladesh’s narcotics laws.
Legal proceedings against the two arrested men are being initiated under the Narcotics Control Act. Following the operation, the suspects were handed over to Natore Sadar Police Station along with the recovered heroin for further legal action.
The allegations against the arrested individuals will ultimately be determined through the judicial process.
