Police have recovered the hanging body of a Border Guard Bangladesh soldier from a watchtower at a border outpost in Jaintiapur upazila, Sylhet. The grim discovery was made on Tuesday morning, prompting an immediate local investigation.
The deceased was identified as 25-year-old Jamil Hasan Shish, son of Sheikh Fazlur Rahman from Ishanghati village under Kashinagar union in Lohagara upazila of Narail district. He was stationed at the Minatila border outpost under the Kendri border area of Jaintiapur, operating as part of the Sylhet battalion.
According to preliminary information gathered by police and local sources, the incident is believed to have occurred sometime between midnight on Monday and dawn on Tuesday. Investigators suspect that the soldier hanged himself inside the camp watchtower during this overnight period, though the precise motivation behind the act remains unclear at this stage.
Authorities moved swiftly upon learning of the incident. By 7:00 AM, Jaintiapur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Molla and Assistant Commissioner for Land Md Monirul Islam arrived at the scene. They were joined by local administrative representatives, border guard officials, Fakhrul Islam, chairman of the 2nd Jaintiapur Union Parishad, and local council member Abdul Halim.
In the presence of the executive magistrate and force authorities, police recovered the body from the watchtower and completed the initial inquest report. The mortal remains were subsequently dispatched to the morgue at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for a comprehensive post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman Molla, officer-in-charge of Jaintiapur Model Police Station, confirmed that a formal unnatural death case has been registered. He noted that a thorough investigation is underway to examine the surrounding circumstances, the soldier’s duty log, and his recent movements at the camp. Law enforcement agencies expect to uncover more clarity once the formal inquiry and autopsy report are finalized.
