Two Motorcyclists Killed in Head-On Highway Collision in Gaibandha

Two young motorcycle riders lost their lives following a violent head-on collision on the Dinajpur-Gobindaganj regional highway in Gaibandha. The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday morning at approximately 9:00 AM in the Shialgara area of Gobindaganj upazila.

The victims were identified as 23-year-old Limon Mia, son of Nazrul Islam from Panchgachhi village, and 30-year-old Rubel Mia, son of Shahin Mia from Chandpara village. Both men were operating their respective two-wheelers when the crash took place.

According to local accounts, the two motorcycles were moving at high speed along the regional route. The crash happened when one of the riders attempted to overtake another vehicle near Shialgara, abruptly losing control of the machine. This sudden loss of control resulted in a direct, high-impact collision with the oncoming motorcycle travelling from the opposite direction. The sheer force of the impact threw both drivers violently onto the asphalt, leaving them with critical injuries.

Passers-by and local residents rushed to the scene immediately after the crash to assist the injured men. They were promptly transported to the Gobindaganj upazila health complex for urgent medical attention. Due to the critical nature of their injuries, emergency medical staff provided initial stabilization before transferring both riders to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura for specialized trauma care.

Both men succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital, casting a pall of grief over their respective communities as news of the fatalities reached their families.

Sub-Inspector Mashiur Rahman of Gobindaganj Police Station formally confirmed the deaths, stating that local law enforcement authorities are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The Dinajpur-Gobindaganj regional highway serves as a vital transportation corridor for daily commuters, supporting a heavy volume of mixed traffic, including numerous motorcycles. Transport safety observers frequently note that excessive speed, hazardous overtaking manoeuvres, and sudden loss of vehicle control significantly elevate the risk of highway accidents. Authorities continue to emphasise the importance of defensive driving, strict adherence to speed limits, and the mandatory use of certified protective gear to safeguard motorists on busy regional routes.
