A man sentenced to 10 years in prison in a drug-related case filed with Mohammadpur Police Station in Dhaka has been arrested in Chattogram by the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-7).
The accused, identified as Md Nur Nabi alias Ripon, was detained from the Foy’s Lake area under Khulshi Police Station on Sunday night, 6 September, following information received by the law-enforcement agency.
According to RAB, Ripon had been living with his family in the Pahartali area of Chattogram. Investigators said he had moved from Dhaka to Chattogram and had been staying in the Khulshi area in an attempt to evade arrest in connection with the drug case.
The case was filed at Mohammadpur Police Station in the capital, where Ripon was subsequently convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison. Despite the court’s verdict, he remained outside custody for an extended period, prompting efforts by law-enforcement agencies to locate him.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from RAB-7 conducted an operation in the Foy’s Lake area on Sunday night and identified and arrested the fugitive convict. His arrest brings him back under the legal process after he had allegedly remained out of reach by changing his place of residence.
RAB officials said the operation was carried out as part of their efforts to trace individuals wanted in criminal cases and bring convicted offenders into custody. Foy’s Lake and surrounding areas are among the busy parts of Chattogram, with residential and commercial activity in the wider Khulshi area.
Assistant Superintendent of Police A. R. M. Mozzaffar Hossain of RAB-7 said Ripon had been handed over to Khulshi Police Station for further legal proceedings.
The latest arrest means the accused will now face the necessary legal procedures related to the existing conviction. Police will handle the subsequent steps in accordance with the court’s order and applicable law.
The operation also highlights the continuing efforts of law-enforcement agencies to locate convicted or wanted individuals who attempt to avoid arrest by moving between cities. In this case, the accused had allegedly left Dhaka and established a residence in Chattogram, but was eventually traced and detained following information received by RAB.
