Popular Bangladeshi singer Rumana Morshed Kanak Chapa is celebrating her 56th birthday today, marking another milestone in a musical career spanning more than three decades. With her distinctive voice and versatile style, she has earned a lasting place among the familiar voices of Bangla music, particularly through her extensive work in the country’s film industry.
Kanak Chapa was born in 1969 in Shantibagh, Dhaka. Her ancestral home is in Kazipur, Sirajganj, although she grew up in the capital. She is the third of five children of Azizul Haque Morshed. Her interest in music developed from an early age, eventually leading her towards formal training and a professional career.
She received musical training from legendary singer Bashir Ahmed. Alongside that tutelage, she studied classical music and Nazrul Sangeet and received training in several other musical traditions.
