Police in Sonargaon, Narayanganj, have launched a murder investigation after recovering the bound, sacked body of a local scrap metal trader from a marsh near an industrial facility in Kanchpur, just hours after his family reported him missing.
The deceased, identified as Ayub Hossain, was the son of Altaf Hossain, a resident of Kanchpur Uttarpara. Hossain ran a small scrap metal recycling enterprise in the area. According to relatives, he vanished unexpectedly on Tuesday evening after failing to return home from work. Family members searched the local area and contacted acquaintances throughout the night, but yielded no trace of his whereabouts.
The breakthrough came on Wednesday morning when local residents noticed a suspicious gunny sack floating in a marsh behind the Jalalabad Pharmaceutical Company premises, adjacent to a scrap warehouse. Alarmed by the sight, community members immediately notified the authorities.
A police team led by Abdul Barik, Officer-in-Charge of Sonargaon Police Station, arrived at the scene shortly after. Officers retrieved the heavy package from the water and untied the sack, revealing the victim’s body with its hands and feet tightly bound. Relatives present at the site confirmed the identity of the deceased.
Law enforcement officers subsequently transported the remains to the Narayanganj District Hospital morgue for a formal post-mortem examination. Detectives hope the forensic autopsy will determine the exact cause, timing, and circumstances of death.
As part of preliminary inquiries, police detained a security guard, identified as Jamil Hossain, for questioning. Authorities emphasized that his detention is aimed at understanding the timeline leading to the disappearance, and no direct involvement has been formally established yet.
Dipankar Ghosh, Additional Superintendent of Police for Narayanganj Circle-B, stated that the precise chain of events remains under investigation. Law enforcement agencies are gathering physical evidence and conducting local inquiries to identify potential suspects. Formal legal proceedings and the filing of a murder case are currently underway at Sonargaon Police Station.
