Bangladesh will play international cricket in Nepal for the first time when the national team travels to Kathmandu in March 2027 for a three-match Twenty20 series against the hosts. The tour will carry significance beyond the cricket itself, with the series being dedicated to people who lost their lives or were affected by devastating floods in Nepal.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) confirmed the tour on Wednesday, releasing the schedule for the three matches. The fixtures are set for 26, 28 and 30 March, with all three games to be played in the Nepalese capital.
The visit will mark the first time Bangladesh’s national team has played an international match on Nepalese soil. It will therefore add a new chapter to the cricketing relationship between the two countries, while giving Nepal the opportunity to host Bangladesh for a bilateral international series.
Preparations for the series followed discussions between Bangladesh’s Youth and Sports Minister Md Aminul Haque and Nepal’s ambassador to Bangladesh, Ghanshyam Bhandari. The talks focused on the proposed tour and the broader sporting relationship between the two countries.
Ambassador Bhandari subsequently visited the BCB headquarters on Wednesday, where he met BCB president Tamim Iqbal. The meeting covered the upcoming series as well as possible avenues for expanding cricketing cooperation between Bangladesh and Nepal.
A central feature of the planned tour is its humanitarian purpose. The series will be dedicated to those affected by the severe flooding in Nepal, with the BCB expressing its sympathy for the victims and communities impacted by the disaster.
The board has also said that profits generated from the series will be spent on supporting people affected by the floods. The decision gives the three-match contest a wider significance, turning the sporting occasion into an expression of solidarity at a difficult time for Nepal.
According to the BCB, the series will provide an opportunity to strengthen the bond between Bangladesh and Nepal through cricket while conveying a message of friendship and support. The matches are expected to bring the two cricketing communities closer while keeping the humanitarian purpose of the tour at the centre of the occasion.
The discussions between the two sides also extended to the wider development of Nepalese cricket. The BCB has assured the Nepal Cricket Association of regular cooperation and support as the country continues to develop its cricketing structure.
Several potential areas of collaboration were discussed, including exchanges between the men’s and women’s teams of the two countries. High Performance (HP) programmes, training opportunities and technical assistance were also identified as areas where Bangladesh could work more closely with Nepal.
Such cooperation could create opportunities for players, coaches and support staff to share experience and knowledge. Team exchanges and structured training initiatives could also help build stronger institutional links between the two cricket boards over time.
For Bangladesh, the series will offer a new international destination and a first opportunity to compete on Nepalese soil. For Nepal, hosting Bangladesh will provide a chance to stage a bilateral series against an established international side while strengthening its cricketing links with a neighbouring South Asian country.
The three T20 matches are scheduled for 26, 28 and 30 March 2027 in Kathmandu. The short gap between the fixtures will make it a compact series, with both teams set to play three matches within five days.
While the outcome on the field will remain a key part of the contest, the tour has been framed around a broader message of friendship and solidarity.
