Expatriate Attacked as Robbers Raid Feni Home at Night

An Oman-based expatriate was allegedly attacked with a sharp weapon after a group of robbers broke into his home in Feni’s Chhagalnaiya by cutting through a window grille. His wife was also assaulted, while gold jewellery and cash were reportedly taken from the residence.

The incident occurred at around 3am on Thursday (17 September) at Bhuiyan Bhaban in Bonanipara, West Chhagalnaiya, under Chhagalnaiya municipality.

The victim, Abdur Rashid Bhuiyan, said he lives on the second floor of the building with his wife. No other members of the family were present in the house at the time of the incident.

According to Rashid, the alleged robbers entered the residence in the early hours after cutting through the grille of a window. Once inside, they attacked him, leaving him injured. His wife was also physically assaulted during the incident.

The attackers allegedly searched the house before fleeing with approximately three and a half bhori of gold jewellery and an unspecified amount of cash. The exact value of the stolen property was not immediately known.

Rashid later went to Chhagalnaiya Upazila Health Complex in the early morning to receive medical treatment for his injuries. Details about the extent of his injuries were not immediately available.

The incident came to the attention of police after the attack, prompting officers from Chhagalnaiya Police Station to visit the house. Investigators are examining the circumstances surrounding the break-in, including how the alleged robbers gained access to the second-floor residence.

Police have also collected CCTV footage as part of efforts to identify those involved. The footage is expected to help investigators establish the movements of the suspects before and after the alleged robbery.

Mohammad Ismail, inspector (investigation) at Chhagalnaiya Police Station, said police had visited the scene after receiving information about the incident. He said CCTV footage had been collected and that the investigation was continuing.

The officer added that necessary legal action would be taken once a formal complaint was received from the victim’s family.

Police have not yet disclosed the identities of any suspects or confirmed whether anyone has been detained in connection with the incident. There was also no immediate information on whether the allegedly stolen jewellery or cash had been recovered.

The case remains under investigation, with police focusing on the available CCTV footage and other circumstances surrounding the alleged late-night break-in.
