A teacher at N Akand Kamil Madrasa in Netrokona has been permanently removed from the institution following allegations of inappropriate conduct involving a female student. The matter came to light after CCTV footage from the madrasa was circulated, according to the institution’s authorities.
The teacher, identified as Md Ehsanul Haque, was barred from entering the madrasa premises after the footage was reviewed. He subsequently submitted his resignation, which was accepted at an emergency meeting. The institution then decided to permanently release him from his teaching post.
According to madrasa Principal Muhammad Abdul Baten, the incident first came to the attention of teachers on 20 August while a meeting was under way. During the meeting, a CCTV monitor showed Ehsanul Haque inside a room with a woman wearing a burqa.
The sight raised concerns among several teachers. They reviewed the relevant CCTV footage and later questioned the teacher about what had been recorded. The principal said that after being shown the footage, Ehsanul Haque admitted to the incident and apologised to his colleagues.
The identity of the woman seen in the footage, however, has not been publicly established. The madrasa authorities have also not confirmed the circumstances in which she entered the room or the precise nature of the alleged conduct.
Principal Abdul Baten said he viewed the video footage himself on 26 August. Following his review, the teacher was declared unwelcome at the madrasa. The lock on the room he used was changed, and he was prohibited from entering the campus.
The matter then moved towards a formal administrative decision. On 1 September, Ehsanul Haque submitted his resignation to the madrasa authorities. An emergency meeting subsequently accepted his resignation and decided to permanently remove him from the institution.
The madrasa said the matter had been reported in writing to its governing body and the district administration. At the same time, officials said the identity of the alleged student involved had not yet been conclusively established. No written complaint had been received from the student, according to the authorities.
The absence of a written complaint has not prevented the authorities from taking administrative action, but officials have indicated that a formal investigation is needed to establish the full circumstances. Questions surrounding the identity of the woman in the footage, what occurred inside the room and whether a student was involved are among the issues that require verification.
Netrokona Additional District Magistrate (Education and ICT) Moon Moon Jahan Liza said removing the teacher from his post alone would not be sufficient. She said an investigation committee would be formed and appropriate measures would be considered based on its findings.
She also referred to the need to bring the teacher involved under the law, if the investigation establishes grounds for legal action.
The incident has drawn attention to the responsibilities of educational institutions in maintaining a safe environment for students and ensuring that allegations involving teachers are handled through proper procedures. It also highlights the sensitivity required when CCTV footage involving students or other individuals is circulated publicly, particularly when the identity of an alleged victim has not been confirmed.
Further action is expected after the proposed investigation establishes the facts of the incident. Until then, details concerning the identity of the woman and the exact circumstances shown in the footage remain subject to verification.
