Musician Crown Engine has released a new track that combines contemporary rap and hip-hop with a familiar line from the work of celebrated Bengali lyricist and composer Abdul Latif. Titled ‘Ki Hoilo!’, the song has been released by Gaanchil Music, with Crown Engine serving as both its lyricist and composer.
A key feature of the track is the use of the line, ‘Porer jayga, porer jomi, ghor banaya ami roi’, from one of Abdul Latif’s widely recognised compositions. The line has been incorporated into the new arrangement as a tribute to the late lyricist and composer, according to Asif Iqbal, head of Gaanchil Music.
Rather than presenting the familiar words in their traditional musical setting, ‘Ki Hoilo!’ places them within a contemporary rap and hip-hop framework. The approach gives the line a different musical context while retaining its connection to Bengali musical heritage.
Crown Engine said the song reflects his own musical ideas through the rhythm and structure of rap. He has written and composed the track himself, making his creative direction a central part of the production.
The chorus has been performed by Ali Adnan Ador. Critical Mahmud handled the musical arrangement, while MR Rabbi worked as the beat producer. Aryan Hasan and Tirtha Chakraborty contributed guitar performances to the track.
The recording was completed at the Hall of Critics studio. The production brings together rap-driven rhythms, programmed beats, chorus vocals and guitar, creating a contemporary sound around Crown Engine’s original composition.
The inclusion of Abdul Latif’s well-known line adds another dimension to the release. For listeners familiar with Bengali music, the phrase provides a recognisable connection to an earlier body of work. At the same time, its placement within a rap-oriented arrangement gives it a newer musical setting that may appeal to audiences who primarily follow contemporary genres.
The track also reflects the way different elements of Bengali music can be presented through changing musical styles. In ‘Ki Hoilo!’, Crown Engine has retained the connection to an established composition while building the rest of the song around his own lyrics, melody and approach to rap.
The collaboration extends beyond the lead vocal and composition. Ali Adnan Ador’s chorus, Critical Mahmud’s arrangement, MR Rabbi’s beat production and the guitar work of Aryan Hasan and Tirtha Chakraborty have each contributed to the final recording.
‘Ki Hoilo!’ is now available for listeners through Gaanchil Music’s YouTube channel. The release marks Crown Engine’s latest effort to combine his own musical expression with elements drawn from Bengali musical tradition, using rap and hip-hop as the central framework.
