NRB Bank PLC has renewed its partnership with MetLife Bangladesh for an eighth consecutive year, continuing an arrangement that provides additional insurance protection to eligible credit cardholders.
The agreement is intended to extend financial protection for customers facing serious and unexpected circumstances. Under the renewed arrangement, eligible NRB Bank credit cardholders will receive insurance coverage that can help settle outstanding credit card balances in the event of death or permanent disability, subject to the applicable policy terms and conditions.
Customers covered by the arrangement will also be entitled to an In-Hospital Cash Benefit for each hospitalisation. The benefit is designed to provide financial assistance during periods of hospital treatment and recovery, when medical and related expenses can place additional pressure on households.
The agreement was signed by Tareq Reaz Khan, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NRB Bank PLC, and Ala Ahmad, Chief Executive Officer of MetLife Bangladesh, on behalf of their respective organisations.
Speaking about the renewed partnership, Tareq Reaz Khan said customers increasingly expect banking services to provide practical value beyond conventional financial transactions. He said continuing the partnership for an eighth year would allow eligible cardholders to retain access to insurance protection intended to support them and their families during difficult and unforeseen situations.
Ala Ahmad said financial protection can become particularly significant when customers face unexpected health crises or other unforeseen events. He said the continued partnership with NRB Bank was aimed at providing insurance benefits that could help reduce financial pressure and offer greater peace of mind.
The arrangement links conventional card-based banking services with additional insurance protection. For eligible customers, coverage related to death or permanent disability can be particularly relevant because outstanding credit card liabilities may otherwise become an additional financial concern for families. The hospital cash benefit, meanwhile, is intended to provide support while a policyholder is receiving inpatient treatment.
NRB Bank provides card and digital financial services in Bangladesh through a range of channels. Its services include digital banking, branch banking, agent banking and internet banking, alongside a variety of technology-driven banking products designed to meet changing customer requirements.
MetLife Bangladesh has been operating in the country since 1952 and currently serves more than one million individual customers and more than 900 corporate clients, according to the information provided by the company.
The insurer reported paying BDT 2,853 crore in claims during 2025 and a further BDT 1,384 crore in the first six months of 2026. According to the company, these were the highest claims payouts in Bangladesh’s insurance industry for the respective periods. It also reported a 98 per cent claims settlement ratio in 2025, which it described as one of the highest in the industry.
The latest agreement therefore continues a partnership that has now reached its eighth consecutive year. For NRB Bank’s eligible credit cardholders, the renewed arrangement means insurance-related protection and hospital cash benefits will remain available under the specified policy conditions.
Senior officials from both organisations attended the signing ceremony, marking the formal renewal of the agreement.
