Farmer Stabbed to Death in Narail After Anti-Drug Confrontation Escalates

A 46-year-old farmer was brutally stabbed to death in Kalia Upazila, Narail, after confronting a local youth over persistent narcotics abuse, police and community members confirmed. The deceased, identified as Mansur Mollya, son of Habi Mollya from Kadamtala village in Peroli Union, died from his injuries on Saturday night. Another local resident, Nur Islam, sustained injuries during the violent attack and received medical treatment.

The lethal encounter occurred around 10:00 pm at the prominent Kadamtala Tri-junction area. According to local sources and law enforcement, the violence was the direct culmination of an ongoing feud regarding illicit substance abuse within the community. The initial dispute flared up on Friday, 25th September, when Kased Mollya, an elected Union Parishad member representing Ward No. 4, admonished a 20-year-old relative, Hasib Mollya, over his habitual drug use. That initial exchange rapidly degenerated into a heated altercation and physical scuffle, leaving the youth aggrieved.

Tensions resurfaced the following evening when Hasib arrived at the Kadamtala crossroads. Mansur Mollya, a cousin of the ward member, accompanied by Nur Islam, approached Hasib to discuss the previous night’s scuffle. A sharp argument broke out between the men, escalating rapidly into physical violence. Hasib allegedly produced a concealed sharp weapon and launched an unprovoked, indiscriminate attack, leaving both Mansur and Nur Islam bleeding on the street.

Distressed villagers quickly gathered and rushed the victims towards medical assistance. However, Mansur’s condition deteriorated rapidly; he succumbed to his severe wounds in the Jamrildanga area whilst being transported to Khulna Medical College Hospital.

Addressing the tragedy, Union Parishad member Kased Mollya alleged that Hasib had struggled with drug addiction for a prolonged period. Attempts to discourage his substance abuse had met with hostility, which ultimately provoked the bloody assault on his relatives.

Officers from Kalia Police Station reached the site shortly after the incident to restore calm. The Officer-in-Charge, Md. Idrish Ali, confirmed that Mansur’s body has been transferred to Narail District Hospital for a post-mortem examination. A police manhunt is currently underway to track down Hasib, who fled the scene immediately following the stabbing. Authorities noted that further legal proceedings and formal charges will follow as the investigation progresses.
