A 38-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her husband following a domestic dispute over an alleged extramarital relationship and financial difficulties in Hamti village of Narsingdi’s Madhabdi area on Tuesday morning. The accused, identified as Jasim Uddin, has reportedly been on the run since the incident.
The victim, Rehana Begum, was allegedly struck on the head during an argument with her husband around 6am on 13 October in Hamti village under Mahishasura Union of Narsingdi Sadar Upazila.
Rehana and Jasim had two daughters. Jasim, who worked as a labourer at a textile mill, was reportedly unemployed for some time, which had contributed to tensions over household expenses.
According to local residents and police sources, the couple had been experiencing marital problems for a prolonged period. Jasim was allegedly involved in a relationship with another woman, an issue that repeatedly led to arguments between the couple. Financial hardship and disagreements over the cost of running the household further strained their relationship.
The dispute reportedly escalated on Tuesday morning after the couple’s two daughters left home to attend a local maktab, an Islamic religious learning centre. During the ensuing argument, Jasim allegedly struck Rehana on the head, causing her death at the scene.
Following the incident, Jasim reportedly fled the house. Police were subsequently informed and arrived at the scene to recover Rehana’s body.
The body was later sent to the morgue at Narsingdi Sadar Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death and assist the investigation.
Madhabdi Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kamal Hossain confirmed that officers had recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. He said the accused husband remained absconding and that legal proceedings were under way.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about domestic violence and the potentially devastating consequences of prolonged marital conflict. However, the precise circumstances surrounding Rehana’s death and the allegations against her husband will need to be established through the police investigation and forensic findings.
The case remains under investigation, and further details are expected to emerge as the authorities pursue legal action against the accused.
