A 13-year-old boy has been accused of attempting to rape a five-year-old child after allegedly luring her with the promise of guava in Syedpur, Nilphamari.
The incident reportedly took place around midday on Sunday (27 September) in the Dhelapir Uttara Housing Project area of Syedpur. The child’s mother submitted a written complaint to Syedpur Police Station on Monday (28 September), seeking action over the alleged incident.
According to the complaint, the child was playing outside her family’s quarters in the housing project when the teenager, who lives in the same area, allegedly approached her. He reportedly offered her guava and took her behind a nearby building. The complaint alleges that he then attempted to sexually assault the child there.
The child later returned home. Her mother noticed something unusual while bathing her and asked what had happened. The child subsequently described the alleged inappropriate behaviour involving the teenager.
The mother then went to the area where the incident was allegedly committed and spoke to several children and teenagers who were present nearby. She said they also provided information about the teenager’s alleged behaviour towards the child. According to the family’s complaint, the accused teenager later admitted to the incident.
The child was subsequently taken to Syedpur 100-Bed Hospital while suffering from bleeding, according to her mother. As her physical condition deteriorated, doctors referred her to Nilphamari General Hospital for further treatment. She remains under medical care there.
The incident has caused concern among the child’s family, who are seeking appropriate legal action and medical treatment for her. The case also highlights the vulnerability of young children, particularly in residential areas where they may be approached by people known to them or living nearby.
Because the accused is also a minor, any legal proceedings will have to take account of the relevant provisions governing children in conflict with the law. The precise circumstances of the alleged incident, including what occurred at the location and the sequence of events, will be established through investigation rather than solely on the basis of the complaint.
Syedpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Rezaul Karim Reza confirmed that the child’s mother had submitted a written complaint. He said police were investigating the matter and would take legal action if evidence substantiating the allegations was found.
The investigation is expected to examine the complaint, statements from people who may have knowledge of the incident and relevant medical information. Police will also determine the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident and assess the evidence before deciding on further legal steps.
The child remains hospitalised as the investigation continues.
