A devastating road accident on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Manikganj Sadar Upazila has claimed the life of a transgender individual. The incident occurred on Sunday evening at approximately 7:30 PM on the Jagir Bridge within the Jagir area, casting a pall of grief and frustration over the local community.
The victim has been identified as thirty-five-year-old Borsha, whose ancestral home is reportedly in the Kaliakair area of Dhaka. According to eyewitnesses and local law enforcement officials, a speeding passenger bus belonging to the “Selfie Paribahan” service was heading towards Dhaka during the evening rush. As the bus reached the Jagir Bridge, it violently collided with a non-motorized rickshaw travelling in the opposite direction towards Golra. The violent impact threw Borsha off the rickshaw, causing severe injuries that resulted in tragic death at the scene before medical help could arrive.
The aftermath of the crash witnessed immediate tension in the area. While the primary bus involved in the collision managed to speed away and evade immediate capture, enraged local residents and bystanders vented their anger by intercepting and detaining two other buses belonging to the same Selfie Paribahan fleet. This spontaneous protest highlighted growing public safety concerns regarding reckless driving and speeding passenger vehicles along this critical regional highway corridor.
Golra Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Selim Matubber confirmed the details of the fatal incident. He stated that law enforcement personnel rushed to the scene immediately after receiving word of the collision, secured the perimeter, and managed the agitated crowd. Police subsequently prepared a detailed inquest report of the deceased and transferred the body to the Manikganj Medical College Hospital morgue for a comprehensive post-mortem examination. Authorities have launched an active investigation to trace the fugitive bus and its driver, while legal proceedings are underway to address the vehicular accident.
