Father Kills Drug Addicted Son in Narsingdi

A man has been accused of killing his 28-year-old son after allegedly tying his hands and feet and attacking him with a sharp weapon in Raipura upazila of Narsingdi. The incident reportedly stemmed from repeated disputes over money for drugs and alleged abuse of family members.

The incident took place in the early hours of Thursday, 15 October, in Baherchar Madhyapara village under Chanderkandi Union. The deceased, Tarek Rahman, was the son of Oliur Rahman, who has been accused of carrying out the killing. He has reportedly been on the run since the incident.

According to local sources, Tarek had previously lived and worked in Malaysia. He was sent back to Bangladesh because of his drug use, the sources said. After returning home, he allegedly became involved in drug use again and frequently assaulted his parents to obtain money for narcotics.

On Wednesday night, 14 October, Tarek allegedly demanded money for drugs and vandalised parts of the family home. The situation reportedly escalated during the dispute.

At one stage, his father, Oliur Rahman, allegedly tied Tarek’s hands and feet and took him to a cowshed behind their house. There, he reportedly assaulted his son before attacking him with a sharp weapon, inflicting injuries to his head, neck and other parts of his body.

Tarek died from excessive blood loss, according to the initial account of the incident.

Following the incident, Oliur Rahman fled the area. No detailed information was immediately available regarding the possible involvement of other family members in the alleged killing.

Raipura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mojibur Rahman said the incident was initially believed to have been linked to disputes over drug use and money. He confirmed that injuries had been found on the back of the victim’s head and below his right ear.

The officer said legal proceedings were under way in connection with the case. Further investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding Tarek’s death and determine the extent of the accused’s involvement.

The allegations against Oliur Rahman have yet to be established through the legal process. Police investigation will be crucial in determining the precise sequence of events and identifying any other individuals who may have been involved.
