A religious teacher has been remanded in custody following allegations of prolonged sexual abuse involving a young residential student at a madrasa in Laxmipur district. The incident, which unfolded within the premises of the Ehiyaul Ulum Hafizia Madrasa in the Gandhabyapur area of Mandari union under Chandraganj police station, has sparked widespread anger and concern among local residents regarding child safety in residential educational institutions.
Law enforcement authorities acted after the victim’s mother lodged a formal case on Saturday, 24 October, under the Prevention of Women and Child Repression Act at Chandraganj police station. Following the filing of the complaint, a police team conducted a raid on the madrasa premises at approximately 4:00 PM the same day, detaining Maulana Ibrahim, one of the primary suspects named in the investigation.
According to statements provided by the victim’s mother, the young boy had been enrolled in the institution’s residential section to study Islamic scripture and become a Hafez. The student had already completed the memorisation of four paras of the Holy Quran. However, the family discovered that the child had been subjected to repeated sexual exploitation by the accused teacher and another suspect over an extended period. Relatives came to know about the ordeal after the distressed child disclosed the ongoing abuse to his parents, prompting them to seek legal redress. The mother has demanded a thorough and impartial investigation to ensure exemplary punishment for those involved.
Chandraganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdur Rob confirmed the administrative and legal proceedings surrounding the case. He stated that officers moved swiftly upon receiving the formal complaint to apprehend the suspect directly from the campus. On Sunday, the police produced Maulana Ibrahim before a local court, which ordered him to be remanded to prison pending further legal proceedings.
The second suspect, identified as Mohammad, the son of the madrasa’s principal, remains at large. Police teams have launched targeted searches across neighbouring areas to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspect. Local community members and guardians have urged law enforcement agencies to expedite the arrest of the remaining accused while demanding stricter oversight of residential religious seminaries to prevent similar incidents in the future.
