A tragic incident unfolded in Feni’s Daganbhuiyan upazila on Sunday night, leaving an eighty-year-old mother dead following an attack by her daughter. The elderly woman succumbed to severe injuries inside her home after being struck with a traditional cutting instrument, plunging the local community into profound shock and sorrow.

The incident occurred at approximately 8:00 PM within East Chandrapur village. According to local law enforcement authorities, the victim, Setara Begum, was targeted by her twenty-seven-year-old daughter, Rina Akhter, who had been struggling with long-standing mental health issues. Rina had recently arrived at her paternal home for a visit from her marital residence.

Without warning inside the confines of the family home, the situation escalated when Rina used a domestic cutting utensil, commonly known as a boti, to attack her elderly mother. Following the assault, the attacker hastily bolted the room’s door from the inside to prevent immediate intervention. Due to catastrophic blood loss and the absence of immediate medical assistance, Setara Begum died at the scene before help could arrive.

Neighbours and local residents, sensing an unusual disturbance, raised the alarm and alerted local authorities. Police units rushed to the scene upon receiving the distress call and successfully broke through the locked door with the assistance of local bystanders. Officers recovered the victim’s lifeless body, seized the weapon utilised in the assault, and detained Rina Akhter at the scene.

The deceased woman’s mortal remains were subsequently transferred to the morgue at Feni Sadar Hospital to undergo a comprehensive post-mortem examination. Fayzul Azim Noman, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Daganbhuiyan police station, confirmed the details of the tragedy to media personnel, noting that formal legal proceedings have been initiated against the detained individual as investigations continue into the distressing circumstances surrounding the family tragedy.
