Armed Forces Day to be celebrated on Monday, On Monday, a variety of events will be held to honor the armed forces, commemorating the creation of the army, navy, and air force during the 1971 Liberation War. The day’s activities will start with special prayers offered after Fajr prayers at all mosques in all cantonments and naval and air force bases across the country on this day, according to an ISPR press release issued here today. These prayers will ask for divine blessings for the well-being and prosperity of the country as well as the advancement of the armed forces.

Both the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and President M. Abdul Hamid will issue separate proclamations to honor the occasion. The President and the Prime Minister will lay wreaths at the Shikha Anirban (the Eternal Flame) at the Dhaka Cantonment on Monday morning to commemorate the day and pay respect to the slain personnel of the armed forces who gave their lives in the Liberation War in 1971.

Later, Army Chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, Navy Chief Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal and Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Shaikh Abdul Hannan will place wreaths at the Shikha Anirban on behalf of their respective forces. On the occasion, chiefs of the three services will pay courtesy call on the President at the Bangabhaban and Prime Minster at Armed Forces Division on the day. The Prime Minister will accord a reception to family members of the Bir Shreshthas and selected number of gallantry award winning 1971 veterans and their familie members at Army Multipurpose Complex in Dhaka Cantonment.

Four army, two navy, and two air force members will each receive the peace award for 2021–2022, according to the prime minister. At the event will be the Minister of Liberation War Affairs, the Prime Minister’s Security Affairs Adviser, the heads of the three services, the PM’s Principal Secretary, the Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division, the Senior Secretary of the Defence Ministry, the Secretary of the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, and other military and civilian officials.

Besides, a reception programme will be arranged on behalf of the premier at Senakunja in the cantonment at 4pm on Monday.

Jatiya Sangsad speaker, chief justice, former presidents, leader of the opposition in parliament, former chief advisors, ministers and the people with the rank of minister, state ministers and the people with the rank of state minister, deputy speaker, foreign envoys in Bangladesh, chiefs of international organizations, chief election commissioner, election commissioners, judges, cabinet secretary, principal secretary, lawmakers (Dhaka),

former military officials, former chiefs of the three services, sports, cultural, Swadhinata Padak and Ekushey Padak winning people in 2022, journalists, educationists, political leaders and dignitaries, family members of all Bir Shresthos, gallantry award winning officials, who lived in Dhaka during and after the Liberation War, and their family members, high civil officials and serving and former officials of three services will join the reception.

The state-run Bangladesh Television (BTV) will live telecast the function.

On May 11, the heads of the navy and the air force will host family members of brave freedom fighters who have received heroism awards from their respective units. Additionally, receptions will be given at bases or cantonments run by the regional headquarters in Barishal, Cox’s Bazar, Bogura, Sylhet, Ghatail, Chattogram, Jashore, Rangpur, and Khulna. In addition, a number of programs have been planned for various army garrisons, naval ships, installations, and bases of the air force located outside of Dhaka.

Bangladesh Navy will keep its ships open for all from 2 pm until the sun sets at different naval berths, rocket ghats and BIWTA ghats in Dhaka, Khulna, Chandpur Barishal and Chattogram to visit on the occasion of the Armed Forces Day on Monday.

Tomorrow night, after the news at 8 o’clock, BTV will air a “Bishesh Anirban” program outlining the significance of the day, with other television networks gradually airing it later.

At 7.30 p.m. on that day, Bangladesh Betar will air the show “Bishesh Durber.” Special supplements highlighting the significance of the day will be published in national dailies. Armed Forces Day competitions for essays and paintings were held at educational institutions run by the armed forces.
