The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon inside a residential home situated in the Shyambazar neighbourhood under Sutrapur Police Station. According to preliminary findings compiled by local law enforcement officers, a family member named Iman Siddique allegedly poured petrol inside his private room and ignited it. The flames spread rapidly within the enclosed space, trapping and engulfing other relatives who were present in the home at the time.

By evening, emergency responders and family members managed to transport all five injured individuals to the capital’s premier specialised burn care facility. Medical personnel at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery immediately admitted them to intensive care and specialized wards to stabilise their conditions.

The victims receiving treatment have been identified as Siddique, 35; his son Iman, 25; nephews Rajib, 35, and Dulu Mia, 34; and niece Tania, 18. This catastrophic event has cast a pall of deep shock and anxiety over the local community, as neighbours and relatives gather outside the hospital to monitor their recovery.

Dr Sultan Mahmud, the resident surgeon at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, confirmed details of their admission to the media. He stated that all five victims of the Sutrapur fire are in critical condition. Highlighting the severity of their injuries, the physician noted that one of the victims has sustained burns covering ninety-eight per cent of their body, posing an extreme challenge for the medical team fighting to save their lives.

Local police have inspected the scene of the crime and initiated an inquiry to determine the exact sequence of events leading up to the tragedy. Investigators are examining whether the fire was the result of a sudden emotional outburst or an intentional act stemming from long-standing domestic tensions. Formal legal procedures are currently underway at the local police station as inquiries continue.
