Mamata Banerjee Sends Birthday Wishes to Shah Rukh Khan

The “Badshah of Bollywood,” Shah Rukh Khan, has officially entered his 60th year, sparking a wave of celebration that transcends the borders of the film industry. On this milestone birthday, a cascade of tributes poured in from across the globe, led notably by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The bond between the two remains one of the most unique cross-sector friendships in India, characterized by a deep-rooted “Didi-Bhai” (elder sister-younger brother) relationship.

A Bond Beyond Politics: The Didi-Bhai Connection

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a heartfelt message, referring to the actor as her brother. Over the last decade, Shah Rukh Khan has served as the Brand Ambassador for West Bengal, a role he took on in 2012. His association with the state is further cemented by his ownership of the IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Their rapport is legendary; Banerjee has often been seen personally dropping the superstar to the airport in her modest car, while Khan never misses an opportunity to visit the state for the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF).

“Wishing my brother Shah Rukh Khan a very happy birthday! May your extraordinary talent and charisma continue to enrich Indian cinema for many more years,” the Chief Minister posted.

Festivities at the “New” Mannat

While thousands of fans traditionally throng the gates of Mannat, the superstar’s iconic heritage bungalow in Bandra, the 60th-birthday celebrations saw a subtle shift in geography. For the past few months, the Khan family has been residing in a luxury rented apartment at Puja Casa in Pali Hill, paying a reported monthly rent of ₹24 lakh. This temporary relocation is due to extensive renovations at Mannat, which include adding two additional floors to the annexe.

Despite the change in residence, the “SRK Universe” of fans remained undeterred. Admirers from as far as Japan, the UK, and the UAE gathered along the Bandra seafront, turning the neighborhood into a virtual festival ground.

The Big Reveal: A “King” in the Making

The highlight of the day was the official teaser release for his upcoming film, titled “King.” Directed by Siddharth Anand, the film is a high-octane action thriller that has already set social media ablaze. The teaser showcases a darker, more ruthless version of the superstar, featuring a striking salt-and-pepper look and a gravelly voiceover that many fans have compared to his dual-role intensity in the 2023 blockbuster Jawan.

In a particularly chilling dialogue from the teaser, Khan’s character declares: “How many people did I kill? I don’t know… I am not fear. I am destruction.”

The film, which marks the highly anticipated big-screen debut of his daughter, Suhana Khan, is slated for a grand theatrical release in 2026. With this new project, Shah Rukh Khan shows no signs of slowing down, proving that even at 60, he remains the undisputed “King of Hearts.”
