In Boda Upazila of Panchagarh, a mobile court faced an attack while returning with seized banned polythene. Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Md. Jawanul Mondal of Boda Police Station confirmed the incident.
The incident occurred on Tuesday (11 November) before Maghrib prayers during an operation led by Boda Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Ashraful Islam at Boda Bazar. Two businesses were fined a total of 4,500 BDT for storing banned polythene, which was then confiscated.
While returning in a van, an angry crowd began chanting slogans such as “Fake Magistrate” and “Mobile Court is Fake,” seizing the confiscated goods and attacking the mobile court officer. When the officer tried to escape, several individuals physically assaulted him.
Subsequently, the Executive Magistrate arrived and attempted to negotiate with the crowd. Police detained two individuals and brought them to the Land Office. Despite this, the crowd continued protesting outside the office. The situation escalated until the army intervened to restore order.
Executive Magistrate Md. Ashraful Islam stated that the mobile court operation was obstructed and the confiscated polythene was looted. The stolen polythene was later recovered.
Two people, Haidar Ali and Hasan Ali, were arrested. Hasan Ali received a 12-day sentence from the mobile court. A case was filed at Boda Police Station against Haidar Ali and 16 others for obstructing official work and assaulting government employees.
