Armed Gang Leaves Young Man Critically Injured in Bogura

A 28-year-old man was critically injured after a group of armed assailants attacked him with machetes and other sharp weapons in the Seujgari area of Bogura on Tuesday night, 20 October.

The victim, identified as Nafiul Islam Nirab, was assaulted at approximately 8:30 pm in an alley behind a restaurant in the Amtala neighbourhood of Seujgari. He suffered serious injuries to his head and several other parts of his body after being repeatedly struck with sharp weapons.

Nirab is the son of Faridul Islam Liton, a resident of the same area. Following the attack, local people rescued him in a critical condition and rushed him to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital (SZMCH) in Bogura.

Doctors at the hospital have described his condition as critical.

According to local sources, Nirab was sitting in an alley behind a hotel in the Amtala area on Tuesday evening when approximately 10 to 12 armed individuals suddenly approached him.

The group reportedly carried machetes, large chopping blades and other sharp weapons. The assailants launched an unexpected attack, repeatedly striking Nirab on the head and different parts of his body.

The assault left him severely wounded and bleeding. After inflicting multiple injuries, the attackers fled the scene, leaving him behind.

People from the surrounding area subsequently came to his assistance. Finding him in a seriously injured condition, they quickly arranged for his transfer to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for emergency treatment.

Nirab was admitted to the hospital, where doctors assessed his injuries and reported that his condition was critical. The severity of the wounds, particularly those sustained to his head, has raised concerns about his recovery.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear. Authorities have yet to establish whether the assault was connected to a previous dispute, a personal disagreement or another unidentified cause.

Police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible.

Mohammad Ibrahim Ali, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bogura Sadar Police Station, confirmed that police personnel visited the scene shortly after receiving information about the attack.

He said several police teams had begun operations to identify and arrest the individuals involved in the assault.

According to the officer, investigators are working to establish the motive behind the violence while taking the necessary steps to bring those responsible within the scope of legal proceedings.

The process of initiating legal action in connection with the incident is also under way.

Police have not yet disclosed the identities of the suspected attackers or confirmed any arrests in the information initially made available.

The involvement of approximately 10 to 12 armed individuals has made identifying the assailants a central part of the investigation. Establishing why Nirab was targeted will also be essential to determining the circumstances that led to the attack.

Meanwhile, Nirab remains under medical care at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital, where his condition has been described as critical.

Police efforts to identify and apprehend those involved are continuing as investigators seek to establish the motive behind the violent assault.
