Six Senior DMP Officers Transferred

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has undergone a targeted administrative restructuring, with six officers holding the rank of Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) being reassigned to new roles. This move, aimed at bolstering operational efficiency across various specialised and territorial divisions, was formalised through an official order signed by the DMP Commissioner, Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali, on Thursday, 13 November.

The reshuffle was officially confirmed by the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division on Saturday, 15 November, following the standard administrative processing of the transfers. Such reallocations of personnel are a common feature of police administration in the capital, often designed to bring fresh perspectives to critical departments or to streamline traffic and security management.

Strategic Personnel Reallocations

The transfer orders involve several high-profile divisions, including the Intelligence and Analysis Division, Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTS), and the Traffic Division.

  • Md. Akhiyul Islam, formerly of the DMP North Division, has been moved to the Wari Division, a key area for urban policing.

  • Md. Mostafizur Rahman transitions from the Intelligence and Analysis Division (Internal Oversight and Admin) to the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTS) unit, a move highlighting the strategic importance of intelligence expertise in security operations.

  • The Traffic Division has seen a “swap” of leadership in two key zones: Poritran Talukdar moves from Traffic-Motijheel to Traffic-Mirpur, while Imranul Islam moves from Traffic-Mirpur to fill the vacancy in Traffic-Motijheel. This reciprocal transfer is likely intended to share best practices between two of Dhaka’s most congested traffic corridors.

Strengthening Specialised Units

A notable aspect of this reshuffle is the movement of Md. Bakul Hossain from the City-Cyber Crime Investigation Division to the Intelligence and Analysis Division. As cyber threats become increasingly integrated with physical security concerns, the migration of experts from digital investigation units into core intelligence roles is seen as a proactive measure by the DMP.

Furthermore, Sharmin Akter Chumki, who previously served in Traffic-Admin, has been reassigned to the Protection and Order Management (POM-West) Division. The POM division is critical for maintaining public order and providing security during large-scale events or civil unrest, requiring officers with strong administrative and field management experience.

These transfers are expected to be implemented with immediate effect, as the DMP continues to refine its organisational structure to better serve the residents of the metropolis.
