Active ‘Molom Party’ Member Produced Before Court

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-8) has successfully arrested a fugitive member of the so-called ‘Molom Party’, who had previously been sentenced to life imprisonment in a murder case in Barishal. The arrest was carried out on Sunday, 23 November, at approximately 8:30 pm, with assistance from RAB-3, in the Puranapaltan area of Dhaka.

The apprehended individual has been identified as Md Asaduzzaman Alam, son of the late Mofizur Rahman Sheikh from Matha Bera in Pirojpur. His arrest was officially confirmed in a press release by Amit Hasan, Senior Assistant Director of RAB-8 Barishal.

According to Pirojpur Police Station Sub-Inspector Anichur Rahman, Asaduzzaman Alam is a prime accused in four separate criminal cases across multiple districts, including Pirojpur. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2023 for a murder committed in 2010 in Jhenaidah. In addition, he faces an ongoing murder case in Pirojpur, and two more cases have been filed against him in connection with other criminal activities. Authorities have emphasised that he was an active member of the banned ‘Molom Party’, an organisation associated with violent and unlawful acts.

Following his arrest, Asaduzzaman Alam was produced before the Pirojpur court on Monday afternoon, where the presiding judge ordered that he be remanded to jail, ensuring that he remains in custody while legal proceedings continue.

RAB officials highlighted that the arrest is part of ongoing operations to apprehend fugitives and criminal elements linked to extremist and outlawed organisations in the region. The operation also underscores the coordinated efforts between different RAB units—RAB-8 and RAB-3—to track down and detain criminals evading justice.

Law enforcement authorities have called on citizens to report information regarding fugitive criminals and criminal networks, reiterating that public cooperation is crucial in maintaining law and order. The arrest of Asaduzzaman Alam has been welcomed as a significant step towards curbing organised crime in Barishal and surrounding districts.
