The severed bodies of two young children and the hanging body of their mother have been discovered from a house in Shahjahanpur, Bogura. The incident took place at a residence in Khalisakandi village, under the Khottapara Union of the upazila, on Tuesday (25 November) morning. Police primarily suspect that the mother ‘committed suicide’ after ‘slitting the throats’ of her two children due to ‘marital discord’.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shahjahanpur Police Station, Shafiqul Islam Palash, stated that an investigation into the incident is ongoing alongside the recovery of the bodies.
The deceased housewife, Sadia Akter (25), was the wife of Md. Kajal of Khalisakandi village in the Khottapara Union of Shahjahanpur Upazila, Bogura. Their daughter was three-year-old Saifa and their son was one-year-old Saif.
Police and local residents reported that on Tuesday morning, family members started calling out as the mother and two children did not wake up and the room door remained locked. After opening the door, the blood-soaked, slit-throat bodies of the children, Saifa and Saif, were found on the bed. Additionally, the body of Sadia Akter was seen hanging from a rafter of the room.
Shahjahanpur Police Station OC Shafiqul Islam Palash said that forces have been sent to recover the bodies of the deceased mother and her two children. After the inquest, all three bodies will be sent to the morgue at Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College (SZMCH) Hospital. An investigation is underway to determine whether the housewife murdered her children by slitting their throats and then committed suicide by hanging herself due to marital discord, or if there was any other occurrence.
