Jamalpur’s Bakshiganj Upazila BNP Student Affairs Secretary and Upazila Chhatra Dal convener, Zubaidul Islam Shamim, has come under intense public scrutiny after images and reports of his alleged sexual misconduct circulated widely on social media. In response, the Jamalpur District Nationalist Students’ Party has issued him a formal show-cause notice.
The party leadership, including Jamalpur District Chhatra Dal President Atikur Rahman Sumil and General Secretary Shafiqul Islam Shafik, confirmed the action.
According to local reports, Shamim had been involved in a prolonged extramarital relationship with the wife of Mahfuzur Rahman from Pollakandi village in Dewanganj Upazila. Mahfuzur Rahman’s wife is a mother of one child.
The incident escalated on the night of 1 January, when Shamim was reportedly caught in a compromising position with Mahfuzur Rahman’s wife inside the family home. Local residents detained Shamim and administered a public beating before informing his family. Subsequently, Shamim was tied up at Mahfuzur Rahman’s residence until Bakshiganj Upazila BNP Vice President Gazi Mostafizur Rahman and former Bakshiganj municipal commissioner Kamruzzaman Sujan negotiated his release.
A settlement was reportedly reached at the same meeting, in which Mahfuzur Rahman granted a divorce to his wife, and Shamim was compelled to marry her under mutual agreement.
The spread of images and videos on social media has ignited widespread debate. The viral footage shows Shamim restrained and beaten, with visible injuries across his body.
Following the incident, Jamalpur District Chhatra Dal formally issued a show-cause notice to Shamim on Tuesday, 6 January. He has been given 48 hours to present himself in person before the District President and General Secretary and respond to the allegations.
