Even as age and health issues took a toll on his body, his spirit remained unbroken. He often attended games despite physical difficulties, feeding on the dust of the pitch and the roar of goals as though it were his lifeblood.
The fierce rivalry with Abahani was a defining feature of Ataur’s life. Even off the pitch, he seemed like a vigilant guardian of black-and-white colours, embodying the spirit of the club in every moment. His devotion transcended a single team; football itself was his religion, beyond wins or losses.
Mohammedan Sporting Club’s former Director-in-Charge, Lokman Hossain Bhuiya, paid tribute at Ataur’s funeral at the Tejgaon Jame Mosque this afternoon, alongside several club officials. They draped the club’s flag over his coffin in a symbolic farewell.
Lokman Bhuiya recalled, “Ata Bhai always carried a small note in his pocket. It read, ‘I am a supporter of Mohammedan’. He called it his ‘profession’. His only desire was a club flag and jersey. Such pure-hearted supporters are rare in this world.”
