Gulshan, Dhaka — In a baffling incident in the capital’s upscale Gulshan neighbourhood on Wednesday night, a motorcyclist affixed a mysterious piece of paper to the moving bulletproof vehicle of BNP Chairman Tareq Rahman before speeding away. The police have launched a spontaneous investigation, but the individual remains unidentified.
According to Officer-in-Charge Rakibul Islam of Gulshan Police Station, the incident occurred around 11:40 pm on Road 65 in Gulshan. “A person riding a motorcycle suddenly approached the moving vehicle, stuck a piece of paper to it, and immediately fled,” he told Prothom Alo. The paper appeared blank, and the motorbike was identified as a white Hero Honda.
Police confirmed that Tareq Rahman’s personal security team (CSF) was present during the incident, though they did not intercept the motorcyclist. No General Diary (GD) was filed by BNP following the event; authorities themselves registered a GD to initiate an inquiry.
An officer involved in the investigation stated that CCTV footage from the vicinity has been collected. Preliminary review of the video shows a lone motorcyclist approaching the vehicle and attaching the paper before making a rapid getaway. Unfortunately, due to the poor quality of the footage, the rider’s identity could not be determined.
The police are analysing the available CCTV recordings and other data to trace the motorbike and its rider. They have indicated that once any new information is obtained, legal measures will be taken promptly. The motive behind the act remains unclear, and speculation about potential threats or political messages has been avoided by authorities until the investigation yields concrete evidence.
